As per the report of the government of Bangladesh, “A major market for prescription medicines is under threat due to the emergence of fake online pharmacies” said a statement of the Bangladesh Drugs Authority. The market for the drugs, which includes prescription medicines like Viagra and Cialis, is also under threat.
According to the regulator, the medicine is classified as a “prescription-only medicine” as it is not medically necessary. However, the regulator states, “A counterfeit medicine may be bought online without a prescription.”
“Counterfeiting is common in online pharmacies, where it is dangerous for people to obtain medicine from unregulated websites without the knowledge of a doctor,” the regulation states. It states that the online sellers are “only selling medicines through registered online pharmacies”.
The drug price of each month is listed on the “List of Medicines Available at Online Pharmacies in Bangladesh”. The list price is calculated according to the market value of each medicine. According to the information provided by the Bangladesh Drugs Authority, the medicine price may vary depending on the country. In general, the price of each medicine may be less than the list price for the corresponding month.
If any counterfeit medicine is found to be in the list of medicines available at online pharmacies in Bangladesh, the manufacturer of the drug must immediately notify the authorities of the problem, the same goes for the manufacturer of the drug. The regulation states that the medicine must be imported and sold in the country under the supervision of a registered doctor and pharmacist.
The regulator says that the fake drugs, which include prescription medicines, may be sold in the market to the public, but not in the country. It states, “Only medicines that have been authorized for sale online, like prescription medicines, can be sold at the local drug stores or drugstores.”
The drug must only be prescribed by a doctor and be purchased in the country under the supervision of a registered doctor and pharmacist.
